Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about downloading and installing APK files from our site.

General Questions

What is an APK file? APK stands for Android Package Kit. It is the file format used by Android to distribute and install applications, the same way Windows uses .exe files. Every app on the Google Play Store is an APK file.

Is it safe to download APK files from your site? We source all APK files from reputable third party platforms. However, installing APKs from outside the Google Play Store always carries some risk. We strongly recommend scanning any downloaded file with antivirus software before installation. We are not responsible for files hosted on third party servers.

Are your APK files free? Yes. All APK files listed on our site are available for free download. Some apps are originally paid apps on the Google Play Store — if you enjoy them please consider supporting the developer by purchasing the official version.

Do I need to create an account to download? No. You can browse and download without creating an account.

Mod APK Questions

What is a Mod APK? A Mod APK is a modified version of an original Android application. Third party developers modify the original APK to add features such as unlimited in-game currency, premium features unlocked, no ads, god mode, and more.

Is using a Mod APK legal? Mod APKs are not authorized by the original developers and may violate the app’s terms of service. Using them is generally not illegal but it may result in your account being banned from the original game or app. Use mod APKs at your own risk.

Will a Mod APK work with my Google Play account? Some mod APKs work alongside your Google Play account but many do not. Games that require an online connection may detect the mod and ban your account. We recommend using a secondary account when trying mod APKs for online games.

Can I update a Mod APK through the Google Play Store? No. Mod APKs cannot be updated through the Play Store. You need to download the new mod version from our site when an update is available.

Installation Questions

How do I install an APK file? See our full guide on the How to Install APK page. In short you need to enable installation from unknown sources in your Android settings, download the APK file, and tap it to install.

What does “Enable Unknown Sources” mean? By default Android only allows installation of apps from the Google Play Store. To install APK files from other sources you need to allow installation from unknown sources in your settings. See our How to Enable Unknown Sources guide for step by step instructions.

The app is not installing. What should I do? Try the following steps:

  • Make sure you have enough storage space on your device
  • Enable installation from unknown sources if you have not already
  • Uninstall any previous version of the app before installing the new one
  • Download the file again in case it was corrupted during download
  • Check that your Android version meets the minimum requirement shown on the app page

Do I need to uninstall the original app before installing a Mod APK? Usually yes. If you already have the official version installed you will likely need to uninstall it first before installing the mod version, as the two have different signatures and Android will not allow the install otherwise.

Will the APK work on my device? Each app page lists the minimum Android version required. If your device meets that requirement the app should work. Some apps are only compatible with certain screen sizes or processor types — check the app page for details.

Technical Questions

What is the difference between APK and XAPK? An XAPK file is a package that contains the APK plus additional OBB data files needed by the app such as game assets. You need a special installer like XAPK Installer to install XAPK files.

What is an OBB file? OBB files are additional data files used by some games and apps. They contain game assets like maps, textures, and audio. Some of our listings include OBB files that need to be placed in a specific folder on your device.

My antivirus is flagging the APK. Is it a virus? Some antivirus programs flag mod APKs as potentially harmful because they have been modified from the original. This is sometimes a false positive. However always use your judgment — if you are unsure do not install the file.

How do I know if I have the latest version? Check the version number listed on the app page and compare it to the version installed on your device. You can find your installed version in Android Settings under Apps.
